SAFe Transformation in Hardware

  • This was a Transformation done over a period of more than 1 year for a Healthcare company that engaged our services for adopting Scaled Agile Framework in the R&D Division of the organisation

  • R&D Division comprised of 100+ in-house professionals in addition to 30+ members from suppliers.

  • Product development teams were a mix of Hardware and Software teams.

The Challenge

The critical challenge faced by the client was their inability to deliver predictably which caused frustration as Business outcomes suffered while Technology group felt they did their best in all the deliveries. We saw lack of alignment and KPIs that will drive growth.

The Ask

I was brought on as a SAFe Coach and Consultant to help the client completely revamp their current Agile practices through Scaled Agile Adoption. Before the engagement, we identified success factors for the SAFe implementation, established clear KPIs, and received support from Leadership to facilitate the necessary changes.

How we went about

  • Understand As-Is Processes, identify bottlenecks and provide for a transformation approach​

  • Identified Value Streams and ARTs to get the adoption kick-started and got Senior Leadership trained on SAFe Values & Principles which was key to successful adoption

  • All teams were trained on SAFe, identified team level metrics that tie to Business KPIs and launched Agile Release Train.

  • Constant coaching, guidance to all stakeholders to ensure everyone practices what they have learned. 

  • Relentlessly drive change through continuous improvements and frequent feedbacks.

Outcome

  • Significant reduction in Time 2 Market from 9 to 12 month release cycles to under 6 months

  • Greater Alignment between Business and Technology by incorporating Lean Portfolio Management Practices

  • Improved team dynamics as everyone felt accountable to achieve their PI and Business Objectives.
